Started a new line of thought on the physical and metal abuse Reah has endured all her life. Reah has been beaten down body and soul for so long she is incapable of just saying no! In Demon's King I think she reached the point where nothing at all mattered. Only at the death of her baby did Reah finally decide she was finished taking orders. I hope she will hang on to this new attitude and way of acting.
Larry, thanks for giving me a good laugh. You are right about my hot buttons. I promise to tone it down from now on. (LOL) It was a rant for sure even if I did not mean it to be. Perhaps I was having a premature senior moment when I wrote those comments? (RFLOL) Always look forward to your comments.
Oh well, back on topic ... I agree that Reah has seem to have hit bottom but has shown a remarkable resilience, if you consider her history the fact that she is willing to take a stand at all is amazing, that she is starting to overcome her past, speaking her mind, and making her own decisions (right or wrong) is nothing short of a miracle.
If you ask me, between Lissa and Reah ... I have more admiration for Reah. Lissa's abuse came from one point and ended when her "father" was sent to jail. This gave Lissa quite a while to get grounded and heal before Wlodek ... rant for a different topic ... lol. Reah has been abused non-stop her whole life from all sides ... it is faster to count the non-abusers than it is to count the abusers. I believe in the end Reah will prove out to have a spirit with a core of solid diamond ... bright and unbreakable.

Reah was conscripted by the Alliance and they taught her to fight, and she is very good at it. Auri sent her out to fight, Lendill sent her out to fight; it seems everyone sends Reah to fight their battles, but she hasn't been fighting for herself. It seems an odd combination, someone who fights so well for others but who is abused herself. I think we'll find out Larry is spot on about Reah's spirit and diamond core.
One of the traits of the abused is that they tend to care for others but not themselves, they feel that others should care for them. This absolves them of the responsibility of caring for themselves ... something that the abuse has proven that they cannot do.
There are many other psychological signs of abuse, but I am not going into depth on that here. As I said, the fact that Reah is starting to make any decisions for and about herself is a testament to her unbroken spirit, I hope that she continues to improve and learns to take charge of her life.
